FAQ About Sourashtra font, Quick List and Search Feature

Why Sourashtra Letters not displayed?

For the Sourashtra Letters to display correctly, Pagul font or similar Unicode font should have been installed in your system. Also, the Browser Font should be changed to Pagul or similar Unicode Font

Download Pagul or Phuul Font from the below link and install it in your System Fonts folder. Once installed, then go to Browser Settings, select Customize fonts under Appearance and change the Standard Font to Pagul or Phuul Font. Your browser will now show the Sourashtra scripts properly. If not, then close the browser and open it again. Take a note of Default Standard Font before changing it so that you can switchback to it when needed.

Note : This will work for IE, Chrome and Firefox. The problem may exists with other Browsers like Netscafe, Opera, Safari etc.,

What is Quick-List? How it is Sorted?

Quick List, as the name implies, helps to find out a Sourashtra word quickly, provided if you know the group it petrains to. For instance, if you want to find out a Sourashtra word pertaining to Vegetables, and you don't know what it is called in Tamil or English, then you can click the list 'Vegetable' and scan through all the Vegetable Names in Sourashtra, Tamil and English until you hit what you are looking for.

In the Quick List, most of the groups are sorted in Logical order. For instance, the 'Body' group is sorted in the logical order from Head to Foot, followed by few related words. The logical order will be more easier while looking for any specific word especially when the word you are looking for itself is not known.

Why the Search Results are long?

The Keyword entered is searched for a match of English Translation and English Transliteration of all Sourashtra Words. For instance, when the keyword entered is meet, it will search for a match in English word and English Transliteration Sourashtra Words. It will return meeT which is English Transliteration of மீட் (Salt) in Sourashtra as well Meet, Meeting etc., of English.

So, the Search Results are sometimes long.

Can I search with Tamil word?

No. You can search a word by entering either English Transliteration of a Sourashtra Word or a English word. For instance, you can search for "cow" by entering either cow (English) or goru (English Transliteration of Sourashtra word for cow). But, you can not search by "பசு" (Tamil word) or "Pasu" (Tamil Transliteration).

Is this Dictionary comprehensive?

A Long way to go. More words are expected to be included. Right now, it will show the Base words such as Verb, Adverb, Noun, Pronoun etc., The Verb Tenses are not yet included. For instance, you can find a Sourashtra word for Come as Av (aav) but aves, aveyo, avu, avanjario, avitte, avno etc., will not be found.

This is only a start with Base words. And, over a period in time all the words will be included and it will become more comprehensive then.

How can I add a word the dictionary?

If you a have Sourashtra word to be included or detected anything incorrect in the dictionary, you can write to us through Facebook or using 'Contact Us' Menu. New word(s) will be included or Correction will be implemented, as the case may be, after verification.
